Wayfinding Signs Program

Wayfinding Signs Program aims to enhance navigation, strengthen district identity, and improve the visitor experience throughout Tysons. Through a coordinated system of signage, maps, and landmark features, the program helps residents, workers, and visitors easily locate transit, parks, destinations, and public spaces. Current initiatives include trail wayfinding signage, the Metro Wayfinding Kiosk Project, and the Water Tower Branding Project, all designed to support Tysons’ continued growth as a walkable, transit-oriented urban center.

Public Art Program

Through strategic partnerships with artists, local property owners, and cultural organizations, Tysons Community Alliance integrates art into highly visible and unexpected public places, transforming infrastructure into meaningful experiences that can be experienced by all. These projects are designed not only to beautify the environment, but to foster connection and spark curiosity throughout our district.

Comprehensive Roadside Management Program (CRMP)

Inspired by the success of the Chicago Gateway Green Program, the Tysons Community Alliance (TCA) has partnered with the Fairfax County and the VDOT to reimagine the landscapes at major interchanges throughout the Tysons area. This initiative is part of a broader effort to elevate Tysons’ identity as a welcoming and connected urban center while addressing visual quality, sustainability, and placemaking through strategic beautification.

About TCA Placemaking & Activation

What is Placemaking?

“Creative Placemaking animates public and private spaces, rejuvenates structures and streetscapes, improves local business viability and public safety, and brings diverse people together to celebrate, inspire, and be inspired.”

Creative Placemaking White Paper,
National Endowment for the Arts, 2010

Why Focus on Place?

“A sense of place is a unique collection of qualities and characteristics–visual, cultural, social, and environmental–that provide meaning to a location. Sense of place is what makes one city or town different form another, but sense of place is also what makes our physical surroundings worth caring about.”

The Distinctive City, Edward T. McMahon, 2012
