Tianyi (Yi) Berinato
Placemaking Manager
As a placemaking planner, Yi is all about creating spaces that inspire connection, creativity, and community pride. With a background in urban planning, placemaking, economic development, and community engagement, Yi has had the chance to lead projects that can transform underused spaces into lively gathering spots filled with energy and purpose.
Before joining TCA, Yi worked with Capitol Riverfront BID, where Yi spearheaded community-focused initiatives, focusing on blending design and functionality to make spaces feel welcoming and dynamic. Yi also spent time at the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities, where she supported the creative community and projects through grant making. Whether it’s working with community to shape ideas, designing creative installations, or planning events that bring people together, she is passionate about building places that feel welcoming and memorable.
Yi is a member of American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP). She holds a Master’s degree in City Planning with a concentration in economic and community development from University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor’s degree in Community and Regional Development from UC Davis.
