What is Placemaking?
“Creative Placemaking animates public and private spaces, rejuvenates structures and streetscapes, improves local business viability and public safety, and brings diverse people together to celebrate, inspire, and be inspired.” NEA 2011 White Paper on Placemaking
A vision for the future of Tysons.
TCA’s Placemaking Program vision is to provide a refreshed sense of place and a renewed identity that corresponds with the vision of Tysons as an “inclusive, vibrant, globally attractive urban center where all thrive”. The vision aligns with the TCA’s 2023 Strategic Plan themes of energizing place, cultivating and promoting identity, building connections and a livable community.
Placemaking Vision + Design Framework
Since the launch of the Tyson Community Alliance’s (TCA) strategic plan, “Connecting Tysons: A Collective Strategic Plan,”we’ve been working with the Tysons Placemaking Stakeholder Group and community to develop the Placemaking Vision and Design Framework. The Framework will guide the TCA’s efforts as it works with partners to create spaces that transform, energize, and activate Tysons’ public realm.
The TCA unveiled the Tysons Placemaking Vision + Design Framework via a June 26, 2024, webinar. Please reach out to the TCA if you’re interested in partnering on Placemaking initiatives and to learn more: placemaking@tysonsva.org.
