The Tysons Community Alliance (TCA) is launching a month-long Bike to Work Contest that encourages people to rethink their commute by experiencing biking to work as a practical, energizing, and enjoyable alternative.

Tysons Bike to Work Contest:

May 1 – 29, 2026

Residents and employees in Tysons will compete in teams, by biking to work as many days as possible during May for a chance to win a $1,000 voucher toward the e-bike of their choice, as well as a one-hour gathering at Perch Putt with food and drinks.

Employer and Residential Participation

Residents and employers play a critical role in shaping commuting habits. By registering as a team, companies can encourage healthier transportation choices, boost employee engagement, and demonstrate leadership in sustainability. Participating employers gain visibility, strengthen workplace culture, and contribute to a more connected, less congested Tysons.

Participation Agreement

👥 Who’s Eligible?

Participants must:

  • Be registered with one of the official teams

  • Have an active ConnectingVA account

  • Meet team criteria:

    • Residential teams: Must live at the residential address

    • Employer teams: Must use the employer’s address as their regular work location

How to Join:

  1. Create or log into your ConnectingVA account

  2. Notify your team captain that you’re participating, and make sure they have your account name

🚴 What Trips Count?

Eligible trips must:

  • Be taken between home and work

  • Be completed using a bicycle (classic pedal bike, e-bike, tricycle, or cargo bike)

  • Avoid any single-occupancy vehicle (SOV) use during the trip

Multi-modal trips are allowed — but the bike portion must meet the one-mile minimum requirement.

📲 Tracking Requirements

All trips must be logged in the ConnectingVA App using:

  • Passive tracking, or

  • Syncing feature

Manual trip entries are limited to two per participant during the contest (additional manual entries beyond two will be disqualified).

🏆 Prizes

Each team’s top rider — the participant with the most bike trips logged — will win:

Tie-Breaker

If two participants tie for most trips, the winner will be determined by total miles traveled.

Voucher Terms

  • Must be used before April 30, 2027

  • Cannot be redeemed for cash

  • Any unused balance may be applied toward in-store safety gear (e.g., helmets)
