The signage initiative was made possible through a Fairfax County Board matter introduced by Supervisor Dalia Palchik (Providence District) in March, with strong support from Supervisors Walter Alcorn (Hunter Mill District) and Jimmy Bierman (Dranesville District). The measure enabled the implementation of the wayfinding program under the County’s Zoning Ordinance.

“Placemaking is about helping people feel a sense of belonging—and that starts with feeling oriented,” said Supervisor Palchik at the event. “These signs are a beautiful and functional addition to Tysons that will help residents and visitors alike move confidently through the district.”

Following the ribbon cutting, guests participated in a guided tour of several installed signs, highlighting how the program supports improved connectivity between key destinations, including Metro stations, cultural attractions, and commercial corridors.

TCA extended its thanks to Supervisor Palchik for her leadership and to Supervisors Alcorn and Bierman for their support. The organization also acknowledged the collaboration of Fairfax County government and the Fairfax County Park Authority, whose partnership made the pilot rollout possible.

“This is a foundational moment for how people experience Tysons on foot,” said Zogg. “With 9 signs in place and more on the way, we’re excited to build a public realm that’s accessible, inspiring, and uniquely Tysons.”

The wayfinding signs are part of a broader initiative by TCA to activate public spaces, promote walkability, and reinforce Tysons’ distinct identity through place-based design.
